Renowned for their expertise in reproducing traditional American Colonial furniture, Charak Furniture Company held a leading position in the 20th century. Throughout the 1920s and beyond, they experienced a peak in production and remarkably persevered through the challenging times of the Great Depression in the 1930s.
Tommi Parzinger became the head modern furniture designer for Charak Modern, a manufacturer known for its more traditional furniture before his tenure there. Parzinger’s pieces were a hit with designers and he later opened his own showroom, Parzinger Originals, on East 57th Street.
The collection offered by Charak Modern Furniture features clean lines, minimalist forms, and a focus on functionality. From stylish living room sofas and chairs to sleek dining sets and bedroom furniture, their designs cater to those seeking a contemporary and refined atmosphere for their living spaces.
In the 1950s, the company embarked on an innovative venture by enlisting the acclaimed American designer Donald Deskey. This collaboration resulted in a remarkable collection of modern furniture featuring vibrant colors and a durable plastic coating, showcasing the company's adaptability to changing design trends.
